Star Camping Park

Xinjiang Province, China | 2022

Work Scope:  Architecture, Masterplanning

Designed by Kenny Wang, Principal Architect of this project, in collaboration with Ming Design Studio, the Star Camping Park is the tenth as well as the last scenic spot of Tian Shan Baili Gallery Scenic Area. The site is a basin deep in the Tianshan Mountains, where the terrain is flat, the field of view is wide, and the sky is high. Therefore, it is proposed to serve as an important camping site in the scenic area, attracting tourists in various ways, such as RVs, wooden houses, yurts and tents, to come and enjoy the starry sky, the bright moon and the bonfire party.

The design takes the log cabin as the prototype, combined with timber claddings, enabling the overall building to become warm and pleasant. Tourists are welcome to stay and spend a good night here.

The geological landforms of Tian Shan areas in Xinjiang province are continuous mountains, which are extremely spectacular and unique. As we believe that architectural design should respond to the natural environment, we extract powerful polyline elements from the mountain ranges and use them as architectural language to generate forms. Thus, this project maintains the consistency of the design language for the entire scenic area.

The architectural forms are divided into multiple unit forms to simulate the state of mutual extrusion during the movement of the earth's crust, which brings the architecture a strong sense of dynamics.
