Tea Su is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Shan Shui spatial philosophy, translated into an urban interior that balances stillness and movement. Rather than referencing traditional imagery, the project draws from the underlying spirit of landscape painting – layering, rhythm, openness, and controlled voids – to create a calm yet engaging spatial experience within the dense fabric of Box Hill.

Zen-like calmness forms the emotional foundation of the design, contrasted with subtle futuristic elements expressed through metallic finishes and the raw, honest presence of concrete. This dialogue between softness and weight, refinement and brutality, allows the space to feel grounded while remaining unmistakably contemporary. Curved geometries are employed as a key architectural language. These curves gently guide visitors inward, soften transitions, and establish a visual continuity with the existing structural columns.

The project deliberately opens itself to the streetscape. Taking advantage of the curved L-shaped curtain wall, the interior is oriented to embrace the surrounding urban context, forming a strong visual and social connection with the community.

Tea Su is envisioned as a relaxed urban retreat – an interior landscape that offers a moment of calm and reflection within the intensity of Box Hill’s commercial core, where architecture, atmosphere, and everyday rituals quietly coexist.
