Our Story
Wang Architects is a team of Melbourne residential architects, founded in 2022 by Kenny Wang and Ziyi Liu, who met as students at the University of Melbourne. What began as a friendship between two designers with different training became a shared practice built on close, hands-on work with clients.

Melbourne Residential Architects
Kenny and Ziyi work on a small number of projects at any time, each taken from early concept through planning approval, documentation and construction. Projects typically range from $2.5 million to $10 million in construction value, keeping the studio small enough that Kenny and Ziyi stay close to every decision. The practice values restraint and spatial intelligence, with design decisions measured against how the site and the client actually live, not chosen for visual effect alone.
Kenny studied in fine arts, drawing and painting in his early years. After working on large commercial projects, he wanted a closer connection with the people behind each project. In 2022, he left commercial practice to establish Wang Architects, with Ziyi joining him soon afterwards.
Ziyi developed her interest in residential architecture at the University of Melbourne and returned as a design studio tutor in 2018, a role she continued for 7 years. Before starting Wang Architects, she worked on residential projects across Melbourne’s inner and eastern suburbs, developing a strong focus on high value custom homes.
Today, Kenny and Ziyi remain closely involved from the first sketch through to construction. Working as both partners in life and in practice, they bring their different perspectives together to design homes across Melbourne, with architecture, interiors and landscape considered as one.
Every home we design becomes part of our story, adding another chapter to the life and practice we are building together.
Where We Work Today
Today, the growing team works on homes across Boroondara, Stonnington and Bayside, with each project designed from first sketch through construction administration.
